The Urolift System provides a quick relief and recovery for men having symptoms of an enlarged prostate. It’s a minimally invasive treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BHP).
This constitutes a simple straightforward procedure. That is to say, tiny implants lift and hold the prostate tissue (enlarged) out of the way so that it doesn’t block the urethra.

Why is Urolift a better choice for Prostate
Preserves sexual function
Urolift is the only procedure which does not cause sexual side effects unlike medicines or TURP. The risk of developing any kind of sexual dysfunction is close to zero. BPH medications on the other hand cause retrograde ejaculation ( inability to perform normal ejaculation during sexual intercourse). These effects are more pronounced in TURP or Laser prostate surgery (HOLEP)
Day care procedure
Most of the patients of Urolift go home the same day, they do not need hospitalisation after the procedure. The usual time period of observation is around 4-6 hours after which patients can walk back home. There is minimal pain which is easily taken care by oral analgesics.
No blood loss
This is the beauty of this procedure. Even upto 100 grams of prostate glands do not require any blood transfusion after the treatment. There could be mildly pinkish Coulter urine for a few hours which gets clear usually by the end of the day. Patients are advised to drink plenty of water or fluids.
No need of catheter
Unlike TURP or Holep procedures which require prolonged catheterisation for upto a week, most of the patients walk Catheter free immediately after the Urolift procedure. Even in patients who have had urine retention previously can also get rid of the urinary
Immediate relief of symptoms
Patients can experience freedom from BPH symptoms like poor urinary flow, weak stream, straining , feeling of incomplete voiding and retention within hours after the procedure.
Freedom from medications
Medications such as Tamsulosin ( Urimax/ Dynapress) etc cause debilitating side effects like postural hypotension, dizziness and retrograde ejaculation. Most patients of BPH are able to get rid of these lifelong medicines after the procedure.
No risk of incontinence
Unlike TURP or Laser prostatectomy the risk of urinary incontinence is close to zero. Since there is no cutting, destruction or charting of the urethral and prostate tissues, the pain, dysuria burning etc are also minimal after the Urolift procedure.
No need of Anesthesia
Most patients receive the treatment under topical Anesthesia in which an anesthetising jelly is put in the urethra minutes before placing the miniaturised implants, which realign and remodel the obstructing prostate gland in such a way that it brings immediate relief. There is no need of spinal or general Anesthesia.
